Flor M. Vasallo
Co-Founder & Publisher - El Mundo Newspaper
Since its inception in 1972, Flor Maria has worked in several capacities for El Mundo Newspaper, the largest Latino newspaper in New England. As a co-founder and co-publisher (along with Alberto Vasallo, Jr.) she has dedicated a significant part of her life to the family-run business which has been nationally recognized for its work in covering and serving the Latino community for over 39 years.
Mostly working behind the scenes, Flor has undoubtedly been the backbone of the publication which is gearing up to celebrate its 40th anniversary next year with a historic, first-of-its-kind celebration at America's Most Beloved Ballpark - Fenway Park with over 7,000 of her closest friends.
From 1972 to the present Flor has spearheaded the financial management of the newspaper which is New England’s largest grossing ethnic publication. El Mundo’s growth into the area’s most visible and recognized Latino publication has been possible only through Flor’s consistent and unwavering dedication to the overall well being of the newspaper.
Through Flor’s active leadership within the company, El Mundo is still a family run publication with a forty-year journalistic history in Massachusetts that has evolved into something beyond just a newspaper. Putting together a top-notch bilingual publication is only the beginning of what El Mundo does in the Hispanic marketplace of New England and Flor Maria has always played a crucial role in each and every historic initiative that El Mundo is involved in.
Flor Maria is the proud mother of Maria and Alberto, III who have given her three grandchildren: Alexandra, Michael and Nicholas. She was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador where she travels to visit family and friends quite often.
