New beginnings for a family at La Alianza Hispana

Fabiola, a young single mother, arrived in the United States as a refugee from Angola. Fabiola and her children were placed in Dorchester —a foreign environment to her on many levels. She was so grateful to be away from the abusive regime in her country and looked forward to building a new life where she could raise her children free of violence, and continue her education after it had been interrupted because of the war in Angola.

La Alianza Hispana's After School Program
Crystal Ramirez, a 10th grader, dreams about becoming an engineer. She's already designed her pathway to realizing this goal through her diligent studies at Boston's Latin Academy. She also knows she has a gift to share with her peers---not every young person has received the support and encouragement she has and she wants to give back.  She wants to make a difference-the time is now for Crystal.

Haciendo Caminos
In 2005, Belkys, a mother of three, began volunteering at her children's elementary school. Serving as an assistant in a kindergarten class, Belkys helped the teacher communicate with the Spanish -speaking children and provided translation and support for parents. Read more...
